Jubilee Hitchhiker review in LA Review of Books

Quite the interesting reviewof Jubilee Hitchhiker in the LA Review of Books by Stan Persky.

I haven’t finished Jubilee Hitchhiker – not even a 1/4 of the way thru. Gatz’s very detailed account hasn’t pulled me in (added to my lack of time for pleasure reading). I’d love for an editor to get ahold of this book and, as Stan says, help to understand the significant moments of Richard’s work & life instead of every moment. I also found the overwhelming amount of facts about everything distracting – and long 😉

I have to agree with one of the commenters about the irony of the author of the lengthy review complaining about the length of the book. 😉

  1. I am not even 1/4 of the way thorough the book and am loving it! I move around North Beach and see all the places Richard used to live, all the old spots like the Bread and Wine Mission, The Place, etc. I feel like I’m living in the 60’s again. Today I kept looking for his tall image walking down the streets as I walked through North Beach.

    • Jane, I can’t find it now but there’s a great video of the diggers which has a split second showing richard carrying a box of fruit. it’s what instantly came to mind when you said that 😉
